Southern Ontario Development Program committed to supporting vital region’s economic recovery

Barrie, Ontario — Patrick Brown, MP for Barrie, on behalf of the Honourable Gary Goodyear, Minister of State for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, today announced that two projects throughout the Barrie area are moving forward thanks to an investment of more than $450,000 under the Southern Ontario Development Program (SODP).

“I am very pleased that our federal government is able to spur job creation in Barrie. These partnerships will create immediate jobs and foster economic activity in our City" said MP Brown.

These projects will help businesses and organizations expand, modernize, innovate and/or improve their competitiveness.

Recipient: Jebco Industries Inc.
Federal Investment (up to $): $332,500

Recipient: TNR Industrial Doors
Federal Investment (up to $): $120,330

"We are delighted that Feddev has provided us with the opportunity to move forward on a key product during a tough economy. TNR appreciates the support and so do all the suppliers who will assist us with product development and testing." said Cathy Buckingham, President of TNR Industrial Doors.

"I'm elated that our government recognizes the importance of heavy manufacturing in the province of Ontario and is taking strides to sustain Ontario's presence in the global market" said Brett Murray, CEO and President of Jebco Industries Inc.

Funding for these projects comes from the $55-million intake process under the SODP. These projects will create full time jobs, keep Canadian businesses competitive and strengthen our local economy.

The Southern Ontario Development Program was established to promote economic development, economic diversification, job creation and sustainable communities in Southern Ontario. The SODP is just one in a series of initiatives introduced in the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan designed to address the short-term effects of the economic decline on communities across Canada, while preparing our communities for long-term growth. Overall funding for the SODP is $100 million in 2009-10. For more information on Canada’s Economic Action Plan, please visit www.actionplan.gc.ca.
