Government of Canada Invests in Snow Goer Canada
February 18, 2010
BARRIE, Ontario – On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Patrick Brown, Member of Parliament (Barrie), today announced funding for Snow Goer Canada magazine.

This funding will help Snow Goer Canada engage freelance writers and photographers to create content for their publication.

“Our Government is proud to help magazines that speak to Canadians’ interests and passions,” said Minister Moore. “Snow Goer Canada is an excellent source of information for Canadians who enjoy the great outdoor winter activity of snowmobiling.”

“I am very pleased to see the Government of Canada supporting the growth of a Barrie-based magazine,” said Mr. Brown.

“We are committed to offering a great Canadian lifestyle publication, and these funds will help us continue to reach snowmobilers coast to coast, with quality editorial that celebrates what millions of people enjoy each winter,” said Mark Lang, Publisher of Snow Goer Canada magazine. “Connecting with the people and places of Canada is what we are all about, so we are very appreciative of this support which helps us do that.”

Snow Goer Canada, published four times a year, covers all aspects of snowmobiling—travel, safety, sport, family, and the celebration of classic and antique sleds. It is Canada’s oldest and longest-running title in the “power” snow sports niche.

The Government of Canada has provided funding of $24,193 through the Support for Editorial Content component of the Canada Magazine Fund. In February 2009, the Government announced that it would maintain its support for Canadian magazines through the creation of the Canada Periodical Fund, a modern, streamlined program that will replace the Canada Magazine Fund and the Publications Assistance Program. This new fund, which recently launched its Aid to Publishers component, will continue to invest in periodicals like this one to increase the overall health of the Canadian magazine and non-daily newspaper industries.
