Conservative Leadership on the World Stage
September 25, 2009

On the final day of this week’s meeting of G20 leaders, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Korean President Lee Myung-bak announced that Canada will host the G20 in June of 2010, and Korea will host a further meeting in November.

Canada is also hosting the G8 Summit in Huntsville, Ontario this June. Given the good work being done by the G20 to address the global recession, this newly announced G20 meeting presents an important opportunity to maintain our coordinated response.

Prime Minister Harper has worked closely with other world leaders to help coordinate the global response to the recession. In Canada, our Conservative government created Canada’s Economic Action Plan, which is part of a synchronized, worldwide response.

At the same time, Canada is preparing for the upcoming meeting of world leaders in Copenhagen, Denmark to discuss climate change strategies. This past week, Prime Minister Harper participated in a meeting on the issue with world leaders, hosted by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and we are working closely with the United States in developing a viable North American climate change strategy.

Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, our Conservative government is working to protect and create jobs and support families. Yet at the same time, Michael Ignatieff, who has a history of talking down Canada when he is abroad, is trying to force an election that Canadians don’t want or need; an election that could very well put Canada’s economic recovery at risk.

Canadians can count on our Conservative government to lead on the world stage.
