
PM announces a major investment to upgrade sports facilities at Laval University

PM visits the football stadium that will be upgraded to host Vanier Cup games this year and next The Rouge et Or varsity football team, Laval University students and sports fans in the Greater Quebec City region will be able to enjoy modern, upgraded facilities thanks to a major job-creating investment under the Harper Government's Economic Action Plan. “This investment showcases the importance our government places on physical activity,” said the Prime Minister. “Upgrading the football stadium and the three adjacent soccer fields will create jobs, encourage our young people to pursue a healthy lifestyle, and enable Quebec City to host major sporting events that will yield substantial economic spin-offs for the region.” This new infrastructure will help make Laval University's Sports and Physical Education Pavilion (PEPS) more versatile, allowing it to diversity its programming. It will be able to host large-scale sports events like Vanier Cup games, which will be held at PEPS in 2009 and 2010. In addition to increasing attendance at sports events at PEPS, the new facilities will encourage sports and physical activity in the region.
