The Prime Minister made the announcement jointly with Korean President Lee Myung-bak during the Pittsburgh Summit. “The G20 process has proven critical to our collective response to the global recession,” said the Prime Minister. “Canada has been a strong participant at these summits because our country brings a strong economic record to the table.” It was agreed in Pittsburgh that a second G20 Summit will be held in Seoul, Korea in November 2010. The two leaders are committed to promoting meaningful changes to fiscal and regulatory processes to continue recovery and prevent further instability in the world economy. “This represents an unprecedented opportunity for Canada to demonstrate leadership as we continue our work on the economy and in defining the path forward,” added the Prime Minister. “I want to thank President Lee for his partnership with us and we look forward to welcoming world leaders to Canada next year.” Canada will co-chair the June G20 summit with the Republic of Korea. |
