April 07, 2010
MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO – Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced support for 43 provincial highway, bridge and road improvement projects across Ontario through Canada’s Economic Action Plan in partnership with the Province of Ontario. The Prime Minister was joined by Dalton McGuinty, Premier of Ontario. “Our priority remains the rapid and effective implementation of Canada’s Economic Action Plan,” said Prime Minister Harper. “Together with the provinces and municipalities, we are continuing to make significant investments in infrastructure projects to create jobs now and build the foundation for future job creation and economic growth.” The 43 projects announced today are located throughout Ontario and include some of the province’s busiest commuter routes. The much-needed improvements will create jobs and economic growth now while lowering commute times and increasing road safety for the future. “Our investments in infrastructure have created and maintained jobs across Ontario and Canada,” said Prime Minister Harper. “Modernizing and improving roads, highways and bridges ensures we have the infrastructure to ensure future growth.” The Infrastructure Stimulus Fund is a key component of Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The Fund invests in construction-ready infrastructure projects that must be completed by March 31, 2011. Today’s announcement represents contributions from both the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario. Since 2007, the governments of Canada and Ontario have committed more than $13 billion in funding to more than 6,400 infrastructure projects across the province.
