October 03, 2010
Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued the following statement on the opening of the XIX Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India: “Beginning today, Canada’s athletes will once again have the chance to shine on the international stage, this time at the XIX Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India. Canadians from coast to coast to coast will be cheering them on. “The Commonwealth Games give Canada and the other Commonwealth countries an opportunity to celebrate through sport our shared values and our historic ties. Those values and ties will continue to unite us long after these Games conclude on October 14. “I am confident that our athletes will once again make Canada proud by achieving terrific results with their characteristic determination, sportsmanship, integrity and humility. On behalf of all Canadians, we wish them good luck and a successful Games.” |
