The Highway 400 – St. Vincent bridge and the Highway 400 - Innisville Creek bridge will receive repairs, rehabilitation or strengthening as required. "Barrie continues to receive an incredible amount of federal stimulus dollars. The investment in infrastructure by Prime Minister Harper shows that this government is seriously committed to leaving a lasting legacy of improved roads, transit and bridges in Barrie." said MP Brown, "This project is an excellent one that will continue to promote economic activity in Barrie by providing jobs. Rebuilding highway bridges throughout Ontario is a provincial priority," said MPP Aileen Carroll. "Construction work on the repairs to the St. Vincent Bridge is expected to start next month." The governments of Canada and Ontario are each providing up to $1,750,000 in funding for these projects. Total eligible cost for these projects is $3.5 million. This funding announcement is for one of the 43 highway, bridge and local road projects announced on April 7, 2010 by Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty. The Government of Canada’s contribution for this project is being provided through the $4 billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, a key component of Canada’s Economic Action Plan providing funding to construction-ready infrastructure projects. Ontario’s portion of the funding is part of the $32 billion infrastructure stimulus funding announced in the Province’s 2009 budget. This joint funding is supporting projects that can be completed by March 31, 2011. Today’s announcement represents contributions from both the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario. Since 2007, the governments of Canada and Ontario have committed more than $13 billion in funding to more than 6,400 infrastructure projects across the province to stimulate the economy and create jobs.
