Residents of the City of Barrie will benefit from federal and provincial infrastructure funding to build and expand facilities, upgrade water/wastewater and road infrastructure, as announced today by MP Patrick Brown and MPP Aileen Carroll. These projects are just one example of both governments’ commitment to stimulating the Ontario economy through the creation of jobs in our communities.
These projects will improve transportation efficiency, support a healthier environment and enhance local facilities and services and create local jobs.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, our Government is getting shovels in the ground and flowing money faster to stimulate the economy and create jobs for Ontarians. I am very pleased to announce Christmas has come early for the City of Barrie. The 7 projects announced today represent the largest single municipal economic stimulus announcement ever done for the City of Barrie by a federal government" said MP Brown. “I am pleased we will see the desperately needed replacement of fire station 1” added MP Brown “I am particularly proud to announce the funding for the airport expansion that was so enthusiastically advocated by the late Paul Mulrooney.”
“These projects are important infrastructure initiatives that will put people to work; stimulate the economy of the Barrie area and produce much improved facilities like the Lake Simcoe Regional Airport and the new firehall. The airport improvements have been one of my major priorities for a very long time,” said Aileen Carroll MPP Barrie.
The governments of Canada and Ontario will each invest up to $16,531,200 in these projects. The City of Barrie will contribute the balance of the total eligible project costs of up to $16,531.200.
“On behalf of Council and residents of the City of Barrie I would like to thank both the provincial and federal governments for their significant investment in Barrie,” said Barrie Mayor Dave Aspden. “This kind of support benefits all Barrie residents and this will allow us to further invest in our community with all the work that we have committed to. It’s an exciting time for our city and we have a lot to look forward to.”
