Government of Canada Invests in Motorcycle Mojo Magazine
February 18, 2010
BARRIE, Ontario – On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Patrick Brown, Member of Parliament (Barrie), today announced funding for Riptide Resources, publishers of Motorcycle Mojo magazine. This funding will help Riptide Resources take concrete measures to better understand its readers’ expectations and increase the number of subscribers. “Our Government is proud to have renewed its funding for Canadian magazines and non-daily newspapers,” said Minister Moore. “A strong periodical sector contributes to our economy and allows Canadians to tell and hear stories, opinions, and perspectives on all topics that are of interest to them.” “I am pleased that our Government is investing in this local magazine that has a Canada-wide distribution,” said Mr. Brown. “Motorcycle Mojo is helping put Barrie and Ontario on the map, and these federal funds will ensure that the magazine remains a vibrant source of information for years to come.” “With the help of the Canada Magazine Fund, Motorcycle Mojo continues to grow and develop its readership and distribution across Canada and beyond,” said Gwen Roberts, Secretary-Treasurer of Riptide Resources. “Since our inception in 2002, we have doubled the number of issues we publish each year and now have a prominent position on more than 2300 newsstands across Canada. We have achieved much success and admiration and are proud to be printed and published in Canada by Canadians.” The Government of Canada has provided funding of $27,750 through the Support for Business Development for Magazine Publishers component of the Canada Magazine Fund. In February 2009, the Government announced that it would maintain its support for Canadian magazines through the creation of the Canada Periodical Fund, a modern, streamlined program that will replace the Canada Magazine Fund and the Publications Assistance Program. This new fund, which will be launched in 2010–2011, will continue to invest in projects like this one to increase the overall health of the Canadian magazine and non-daily newspaper industries. |
