![]() Patrick is joined by Debbie Kerr at the launch of the 2nd Annual Robert Kerr Accessibility Award Today MP Patrick Brown joined John Tom, owner of MEDIchair, and Robert Kerr Accessibility Committee members to announce the 2nd annual Robert Kerr Accessibility Award. This award was created as a tribute to the accomplishments of the late Robert Kerr, an advocate for disabled persons. This award will recognize the contributions of an individual, business, agency or group from Barrie who has reached out to disabled persons resulting in a more inclusive community. “Robert Kerr made many contributions to our community. He was an inspiration to all of us. Robert was one of the founding members of the BACTS bus and was instrumental in creating a group presently known as the Simcoe County Association for the Physically Disabled,” said MP Brown. “I encourage those who are aware of agencies, groups, businesses or individuals that have made an exceptional effort to make our city a more accessible community for disabled persons to submit a nomination form outlining their contribution,” urged MP Brown. “John Tom and MEDIchair have generously offered a $500 cash award and trophy to the recipient as a gesture of appreciation and recognition. I would like to thank him for his commitment to the betterment of our community.” “Robert Kerr was a strong advocate for accessibility and quality of life in the city of Barrie,” states Mr. Tom. “With an aging population, others need to follow in Robert’s footsteps to champion accessibility and equality for individuals with disabilities. MEDIchair Barrie is a proud sponsor of the Robert Kerr Accessibility Award. I look forward to presenting this annual award to worthy recipients and I’m sure each one will appreciate learning more about Robert’s legacy.” Nomination forms can be obtained from MP Brown’s office or website, www.servingbarrie.com and the City of Barrie website, www.cityofbarrie.ca. Deadline for submissions is September 30, 2010. |
