MP Patrick Brown announcing Funds raised from the 1st Annual Barrie Waterfront Half Marathon in support of the Cardiac Unit at RVH & Date for 2nd Annual Event
December 20, 2011

Last year on Sunday August 14th 2011, MP Patrick Brown hosted the inaugural ‘Honda Barrie Waterfront Half Marathon’ in support of Royal Victoria Hospital.

The race consisted of a 21km Half Marathon with a 10.5km relay and 5km option. The route followed along Barrie’s waterfront from south shore to north shore and back. All race participants received a complimentary Barrie Waterfront Half Marathon T-shirt as well as a medal. The number of pre-registered participants was limited to 600 runners and was sold out well before race day.

“In addition to raising funds for RVH, the race promoted a healthy active lifestyle within Barrie as well as demonstrated our beautiful lakefront to outside visitors. With the support of community members and businesses alike this event was a tremendous success. I will be incredibly happy and proud to present representatives of our hospital a cheque tomorrow for our cardiac unit” – Patrick Brown

Lending a hand of support again this year will be Ward 2 Councillor Lynn Strachan. “The inaugural race was tremendous for runners of all ages and abilities. I am so happy to see it back again this year. This event has now become another annual tradition that puts Barrie, our downtown and our wonderful waterfront on the map.” – Lynn Strachan

Proud sponsor Honda Canada has signed up again this year. "We couldn't have asked for a better outcome," noted Lisa Timpf, Group Leader for Communications and Community Relations.  "The event went smoothly, the participants seemed to have a lot of fun, and money was raised for a very worthy cause.  We were pleased to have the opportunity to be the lead sponsor.” - Ms. Timpf
