MP PATRICK BROWN’s Private Members Bill passes 2nd reading in the House of Commons
December 09, 2011
(C-314 - ENANCING BREAST CANCER SCREENING INITIATIVES)

OTTAWA – Further to his introducing his Private Members Bill C-314 (“The Breast Density Awareness Act)” to the House of Commons on October 6, 2011,
MP Patrick Brown opened 2nd reading of the Bill today in The House of Commons. The debate was carried live today on CPAC (Cable Public Affairs Channel), ending at 2pm.

“The Breast Density Awareness Act” is an enactment requiring the Government of Canada to encourage the use of existing initiatives in order to increase awareness among women about the implications of heterogeneous or dense breast tissue for breast cancer screening. This will help assist women and health care providers in making well-informed decisions regarding screening.

After passing 2nd reading today, the Bill will now be sent to committee.

“Too many families have been touched by this insidious form of cancer, and I am hopeful that by ensuring women get the information they need to promote early detection, this legislation will save lives. I thank my colleague MP Parm Gill for seconding my Bill and sincerely appreciate the excellent supporting speeches delivered by MP’s Kellie Leitch, Kelly Block and Michelle Rempel today in the House. I am thrilled at the prospect of this Bill becoming law in the near future”.
