Taking a much needed break after a successful event, MP Patrick Brown, far right, presented a cheque for $30,000 to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s new Cardiac Care Unit.  Joining him for the presentation are, from left, Lisa Timpf Communications and Community Relations, Honda of Canada Manufacturing – Presenting Sponsor of the 2012 Barrie Waterfront Half Marathon, Jeff Moyle, Race Director and Selma Mitchell, director, RVH Cardiovascular Program.

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre’s (RVH) new Cardiac Care Unit recently got a heartfelt boost of support from Barrie Member of Parliament Patrick Brown and the organizing committee of the 2012 Barrie Waterfront Half Marathon. They recently toured the new Cardiac Care Unit at RVH and presented the proceeds from this years half marathon. The unit, the only one of its kinds in the Region will open in early December, and provide for patients undergoing acute cardiac episodes which were previously cared for in the health centre’s Intensive Care Unit.

“With the support of corporate sponsors, celebrity athletes and members of the community this was once again a fabulous event,” says MP Patrick Brown. “In addition to raising funds for RVH’s new Cardiac Care Unit we spread the important message about cardiac disease and the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

This was the second year for the event, held on June 17, along Barrie’s waterfront. Nearly 1200 people laced up for either the half marathon, 5K or the Relay event.

“Once again, MP Brown has demonstrated his tremendous commitment to RVH and the well-being of his constituents with the Barrie Half Marathon,” says Janice Skot, RVH president and CEO. “The half marathon, as well as his Hockey Night in Barrie event, raise much needed funds to support RVH in the delivery of high quality care, closer to home for residents of the region.”
